Man shot in face on city street; gunman held, more arrests likely

Rayne police are in the early stages of their investigation of a shooting that occurred Wednesday,May 7 in the 500 block of North Arenas Street.
In his first status report on the shooting Chief Carroll Stelly cautioned, “that the investigation is in its infancy and more arrests are expected.”
City police responded at 6:52 p.m. to multiple reports of gunfire on Arenas Street.
Police discovered a 45-year-old black man suffering from a gunshot wound to his face. He was one of four men inside a Dodge Charger at the time of the gunman’s attack.
The victim was transported to Lafayette General Medical Center where he underwent surgery and is listed to stable condition.
Officers identified Quintin Von Keith Senegal, age 30, as the shooter and arrested him shortly after the shooting.
Senegal is charged with four counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies.
Senegal was transferred to the Acadia Parish Jail Friday.Judge Glennon P. Everett set Senegal’s bond at $250 for the four counts of first-degree member and $50,000 on the one court of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Chief Stelly reports the investigation determined an AK-47 semi-automatic assault rifle was the weapon used in the shooting.
Because Senegal is a convicted felon, his possession of the rifle was prohibited by state and federal law.
Chief Stelly notes, “This incident occurred in a quiet residential neighborhood where numerous children were playing outside. The dangerous disregard for the public’s safety in this situation by the suspect and others is infuriating.”
“The investigation has yet to determine the true motivation for the incident,” says Chief Stelly. “However, evidence suggests it is a continuation from an incident Sunday on Quarter Pole Road in which multiple shots were fired.”
He emphasized, “My officers are diligently working to gather additional evidence and possibly charge other individuals in this incident.”
