Presidential primary ballot limited to Democratic, Republican voters

Local ballots will be open to all voters

The upcoming March 5th Presidential Preference Primary is a CLOSED PARIY PRIMARY, emphasizes Acadia Parish Registrar of Voters Billie J. Meyer.
The election is closed by the choice of the Democrat and Republican parties in Louisiana.
This means that only those voters who are registered as Democrats will be able to vote for candidates on the Democratic Party Ballot and only those voters who are registered as Republicans will be able to vote for Republican candidates on the Republican Party Ballot.
If you are registered as: No Party. None. Other party. Independent. Green. Reform or Libertarian party member, Meyer says, “you will NOT be eligible to vote in the Presidential Preference Party Primary on March 5.
Meyer continues voters may verify their current information on their voter record by calling her office 337-788-8841 or the website: geauxvote.com.
Voters do have the option of changing their public party designation. “You can still change your party if you wish to do so,” explains Meyer. The deadline to change party affiliation, register to vote or make other changes to your voter record is WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 3. Voters may do so in person at the Registrar of Voters Office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or online at the website: geauxvote.com.
Also on the March 5 ballot, but not parish wide will be: 3 school district tax propositions, special elections for mayor in Eunice and Morse, special election for chief of police in Crowley and member Republican Central Committee 26th Senatorial District. Division A.
Important Dates
• Wednesday Feb. 3, will be the last day to register to vote or change political party
• Tuesday March 1,will be the last day to request absentee mail ballots
• Early voting will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, and Monday Feb. 22 thru Saturday Feb. 27.
Early ballots may be cast at the Registrar’s Office, 568 NW Court Circle in Crowley, weekdays and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The office will be closed on Sunday.
• Friday March 4. will be the last day for registrar to receive voted absentee ballots.
Polling places will be open in Acadia Parish on Saturday March 5, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
