Selection of Duson police chief postponed

DUSON - During their first meeting of the new year Monday night, Jan. 12, the new mayor and council all took their oaths at the town’s first regular meeting of the year. After all the new officials were sworn in, the council moved to postpone naming a new chief of police for the town.
Interim Chief Joe Caillet has been serving since July of last year, and will continue as interim until at least next month’s town meeting when the council hopes to have a decision on a new chief. Caillet is one of many names being considered for the position.
Caillet stepped in as chief after former Chief Frank Andrew was fired last year by the council on accusations of drinking and gambling on the job.
Appointments and reappointments included:
Carroll Pepper as mayor pro tem;
Brad Andrus reappointed as town attorney and court magistate;
Luke Colligan appointed town prosecutor;
Harriet O’Brien reappointed town clerk;
Joseph Calliet, Jr. temporarily reappointed chief of police;
Kolder, Champagne, Slaven & Company LLC reappointed two auditor.
Sellers & Association reappointed town engineer; and
Minvielle & Associates reappointed as city planner/grant writer.
The Council accepted Chief Caillet’s recommendation to hire Joe Huval as a police officer.
Clerk O’Brien discussed the financial statement and the Council set 2015 meeting dates and holidays.
Frances Mouton, head of the town’s Mardi Gras Committee, discussed the Mardi Gras parade at 12 noon on Feb. 15 and the street dance. Members of the Duson Welcoming Committee were introduced.
