Task force formed to oversee Veterans Park’s development

Mayor Chuck Robichaux has established a separate entity “Task Force” to solicit community and civic organizations that would like to do fund-raising for the Veterans Park planned near the entrance to Gossen Park.
The task force is also charged with coordinating the design and construction of the Park, says Chairman Larry Guidry.
The previous city administration approved a plot of land, dedicated for a park to honor all veterans, regardless of their residence, who served during peace and wartime.
Subsequently, the task force is moving forward with plans to complete the park as quickly and frugally as possible, said Guidry.
In addition to Guidry, who chairs the group, members of the Task Force are Lorraine Gaines, Mike Bourque, Robert Comeaux, Romel Charles and Billy McFalls.
The Task Force has met three times and has already voted on a selected design, which will soon be published for all to see once final details are complete.
Although the City of Rayne has officially placed the promised funds of $40,000 into the Veterans Park checking account for the construction of the park, more is needed, acknowledged Guidry.
In order to obtain necessary revenues for building materials and to properly honor each veteran, commemorative bricks are available for purchase at the Rayne City Hall for $75. Each brick will be engraved with the veterans name, rank, name of service, wartime service, if appropriate, and/or dates of service.
These bricks will be placed side by side in the main portion of the construction design.
Guidry and the committee encourage all veterans, family members and friends of veterans to visit Rayne City Hall and purchase a brick to be placed in the beautiful park which will honor and show gratitude to veterans for their brave and honorable service. Applications may also be picked-up and mailed to veterans.
Guidry said, “Thank you to all those that have already purchased bricks.”
