Elizabeth Ashley Savoy weds Jakob Theunissen
A nuptial Mass uniting Elizabeth Ashley Savoy of Church Point and Jakob Russo Theunissen of Rayne took place Saturday, May 1, 2010 at St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove.
The bride is the daughter of Keith and Nancy Savoy of Church Point. She is the granddaughter of the late Michael “Mickey” and Geneva Scanlan, the late Alton Savoy, and great grandmother Lidiana Savoy, all of Church Point. She is a 2005 graduate of Notre Dame High School and received a degree in care and development of young children.
The groom is the son of Dexter and Yvonne Cahanin Theunissen of Crowley. He is the grandson of the late Russo and Dolice Cahanin of Rayne and the late Joseph and Eve Theunissen of Crowley. He is a 2006 graduate of Northside Christian School of Crowley and is employed by Expro of Broussard.
Ushering guests to their seats were Josh Marceaux and Dameon Lafosse, friends of the groom.
On the arm of her father, the bride was elegant in an A-line gown featuring front and back pleats gathered at the hemline. The waist was embellished with a beautiful Swarovski crystal bodice and embroidered band. The sweetheart neckline and chapel length train completed her look. She wore a veil of bridal illusion embellished with scattered Swarovski crystals, paired with a Moriell tiara. She carried an English garden-style clutch bouquet consisting of ivory garden cabbage roses, blush peonies, gardenias, lily of the valley and soft pink hydrangea. The bouquet was encrusted with aurora borealis stones and pearls, while a very special pin and rosary were attached.
Traditional items incorporated into her ensemble were a brooch borrowed from her sister, Megan Savoy as something old; a pearl and diamond necklace from her aunt and uncle as something new; a rosary that belongs to her aunt, Rebecca Scanlan as something borrowed, and a sapphire ring borrowed from her aunt, Rebecca Scanlan as something blue.
Attending as matron of honor was Britney T. Miller, sister of the groom. Megan Savoy, sister of the bride, attended as maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Kathryn Savoy Guidry, sister of the bride; Kelly Theunissen, Holly Adams and Mandy Martin, sisters of the groom; and Lauren Theunissen, sister-in-law of the groom. Attending as junior bridesmaid was Annsley Martin, niece of the groom.
Bridal attendants were attired in floor length pink strapless satin A-line dresses complimented by a sweetheart neckline and a wide ivory satin ruched sash. Each carried a clutch bouquet that included a variety of antique garden roses of ivory and soft pink accented with soft hydrangea tied with long ivory ribbons. The maid of honor’s bouquet was accented with white ranunculous, while the junior bridesmaid carried a smaller version of the bridesmaid’s bouquet..
Joey Theunissen, brother of the groom, and Derek Miller, brother-in-law of the groom, served as best men.
Groomsmen were Timothy Savoy and K. Jacob Savoy, brothers of the bride; Brock Adams and Brian Martin, brothers-in-law of the groom, and David Meaux, friend of the groom. Serving as junior groomsman was Bryant Martin, nephew of the groom.
The groom’s boutonniere consisted of lily of the valley and a few small ivory Garden roses. Each groomsmen wore boutonnieres consisting of smaller ivory Garden roses.
Attending as flower girl was Aylei Theunissen, niece of the groom. She carried a basket completely covered in ivory and soft pink garden roses with a jeweled handle and wore a crown of the same roses. Aylei was escorted down the aisle by Aiden Guidry, nephew of the bride, who carried a small brown stuffed dog.
For her daughter’s wedding, the bride’s mother, the former Nancy Scanlan selected a two-piece iridescent taffeta suit consisting of a mermaid-syle dress that featured a scattered midriff with a sash and brooch accent, paired with a matching bolero jacket that featured three-quarter length sleeves.
The groom’s mother, the former Yvonne Cahanin chose a floor length dress of mauve that featured a bodice adorned with lace and sequins paired with a matching jacket.
Both mothers carried posies of ivory and blush garden roses.
Providing the musical selections during the ceremony were Melody Thibodeaux, soprano; Paul Baker, tenor; John Moore, organist; Lauren Baker, violinist; Ivan Antonov, cello and Wilfred Green, trumpeter.
The couple was married on her parents’ 29th wedding anniversary and what would have been her maternal grandparents’ 61st anniversary.
Immediately following the wedding ceremony, guests were greeted during a reception held at the Ballroom of Crowley in the couple’s honor.
The bride’s table was draped with an ivory file linen and overlaid with a double layered soft pink sheer linen. Of special significance was a crystal basket filled with flowers and placed near the cake. The basket has become a traditional display for the family as the bride’s great-grandmother used in at all of the family weddings.
The bride’s cake consisted of four layers, the first of which consisted of white almond with Parisian icing, the second filled with white almond topped with butter cream icing, the third a dark chocolate confection with German chocolate icing, and the fourth a pistachio confection toped with cherry blossom icing.
The groom’s cake was placed on an antique German table with cypress shutters placed behind it. The cake was a chocolate fudge confection filled with chocolate mousse frosted in a chocolate butter cream topped with milk chocolate ganache decorated with an edible 3D version of a 1986 white Honda Prelude. Two dozen chocolate covered strawberries garnished the cake.
The bride and groom departed from the Ballroom through a cloud of pink rose petals.
Following a wedding trip to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, the couple will reside in Rayne.
Prior to the wedding, a rehearsal dinner hosted by the groom’s parents was held at Chef Roy’s Frog City Restaurant in Rayne on Thursday, April 29, where family members and guests were welcomed.
