Seahawks, Broncos headed to the Super Bowl

Area residents strongly favor Denver

On Feb. 2, the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks will meet at MetLife Field for Super Bowl XLVIII.

It will possibly be viewed as a matchup between the best quarterback ever to play the game and the self-professed “best cornerback in the game.”

Among the headlines people can expect to see in the coming weeks will be countless stories about the greatness of Peyton Manning as well as many regarding the brashness of Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman.

Sherman described himself as the best in the game, during a colorful post-game interview with sideline reporter Erin Andrews Sunday. He also took the opportunity to blast 49’er receiver Michael Crabtree, who he described as “sorry.”

His postgame tirade may have created several Denver fans in Acadia Parish.

“I thought that was cheap,” said  Acadia Parish resident Connor Reed. “You never single out another player in that environment. He should’ve just been happy about the win.”

“At first, it really didn’t matter to me,” said Crowley resident J.C. Webb. “But after the game when I saw Sherman run his mouth about how good he was, that made me a Broncos fan immediately. What an idiot! Sorry, Seahawk fans.”

For the first since the Saints played the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV, the top seeds in the AFC and the NFC will square off in the big game. Peyton Manning hopes it turns out better for him than it did in the 2010 game that will forever be remembered by south Louisiana football fans.

Area dignitaries have already begun to weigh in on the Feb. 2 matchup.

“I’m going with the Broncos,” said Mayor Greg Jones Monday morning. “Peyton Manning has Louisiana ties. I was going for the 49’ers but now that they’re out it’s the Broncos.”

“I’m a huge fan of Peyton Manning and I’ve always admired the way he plays the game,” said Police Chief K.P. Gibson. “He’s also a Louisiana boy and I’d definitely like to see him win another Super Bowl.”

Others questioned by the Post-Signal followed suit.

“I’m going for the Saints,” joked Chamber of Commerce member Kerry Gibson. “Honestly, I’m pulling for the Broncos and Peyton Manning. I’d also like to see him win another one and finish his career before he hurts his neck.”

“I am definitely going for the righteous Denver Broncos,” said Alderman Elliot Dore. “I remember going to the Super Bowl in New Orleans when the Broncos Orange Crush defense played against the Dallas Cowboys. I’d like to see them take it.”

“I’m pulling for the Broncos,” said Alderman Bryan Borill. “They have Louisiana connections. I’ve always admired the Mannings and everything they stand for.”

It seems there may be a few orange t-shirts being worn at the Borill residence in a couple of weeks.

“Well that’s a ‘no-brainer’ for me,” said Judy Borill. “I gotta pull for the Louisiana boy. Peyton Manning and Broncos all the way!”

Area resident Greg Dubos may have put it the best.

“If the Saints can’t be there, then the son of a Saint,” he said. “Go Broncos!”
