Linest “L.J.” Istre
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 21, at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Linest “L.J.” Istre, 86, who died after a brief illness on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette surrounded by his family.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Rector of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be the celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the services. Lector will be Jill Istre. Giftbearers will be Katherine Delanie Roy and Tyler Keith Istre.
A native and resident of Crowley for most of his life, “L.J.” was the retired owner of Istre and Son Monument Company in Crowley. He loved LSU football and was an avid fan. “L.J.” never met a stranger and enjoyed talking with people and telling stories of the past. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his precious grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Kathleen Istre Roy and husband Jim, Keith Istre and wife Jill, Debbie Istre Guillot, and Lucy Casey and husband Glen; nine grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elenia Cormier Istre; his parents, Edward Istre and Celimene Gautreau Broussard; his son, Eddie Dean Istre; his sister, Louella LeBlanc; and his brother, Donald Ray “Pee Wee” Istre.
Pallbearers will be Jim Roy, Keith Istre, Tyler Istre, Mitch Heim, and Mark Benoit.
A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in Martin & Castille’s downtown location.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and continue on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
The family extends a heartfelt appreciation to Rafaela and Kerney for the time spent with our father in his final days.
