Joseph Sidney Delahoussaye

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Joseph Sidney Delahoussaye Sr., 95, who died at 12:29 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, in Lafayette.

Deacon Rodless Leleux will preside over the funeral service. Visitation may be observed on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time. A Rosary will be prayed at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Delahoussaye was born Oct. 1, 1918, in St. Martinville to the late Sidney and Odile Maraist Delahoussaye. He was a veteran of World War II and served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He worked in the rice industry all his life and owned and operated the Hope Rice Mill in Crowley. He and his wife loved to travel and had many great adventures in Europe and the USA. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He also loved his garden and fruit trees and tended to them until his last days.

He is survived by his son, Joseph S. Delahoussaye Jr. and wife Diane of Lafayette; two granddaughters, Amy Alfortish and husband Yogi of New York and Allison Delgado of Lafayette and three great grandchildren, Alex and Isabella Delgado and Tai Alfortish-Yamada.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn Comeaux Delahoussaye; and his three brothers, Frederick, Roy and John Delahoussaye.
