John V. “Gramps” Doguet

Funeral services will be held for John V. “Gramps”  Doguet, 78, on Friday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. at Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne with Rev. Alan Breaux officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 11, from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. and will resume on Friday, Sept. 12, at 8 a.m. until service time.

Entombment will follow the service at St. Joseph #2 Catholic Cemetery in Rayne. 

Mr. Doguet passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014.

“Gramps” as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was a lifelong resident of Rayne, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a longtime owner and breeder in the local racehorse industry and was well known for his “cowboy hat.” Although he was unable to see, he recognized his friends and family instantly from voice and was a “lively story teller.”

Mr. Doguet is survived by his children, Chad Anthony Doguet and wife Phyllis of Rayne, Shawon Marie Doguet of Rayne and Dawn Doguet Alleman and husband Brandon “Bubba” Alleman of Mire; four grandchildren, Jack Smith, Jayce Doguet, Laura Alleman and Camille Alleman; two sisters, Jane Hebert of Parks and Bernadette Broussard and husband James of Scott; and one sister-in-law, Frances Doga of Rayne.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Cormier Doguet; daughter, Brandy Doguet; parents, Laurice Doguet and Eva Breaux Doguet; brothers, Ruby Doga and Ivy Doguet; sister, Gertie D. Lafleur; and brother-in-law, Russell Hebert.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Doga, Rocky Hebert, Ricky Hebert, Dana Dugas, Mike Broussard and Bubba Alleman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Hebert, Chris Hebert, Jimmy Hebert, Mickey Broussard and Robert Cormier.
