Whitney Joseph “Robicheaux” Damon
Funeral services for Whitney “Robicheaux” Damon, 88, of Jeanerette, will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Gueydan on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. with Father Corey Campeaux officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Whitney will be laid to rest in the Gueydan Cemetery.
Whitney was born on Dec. 12, 1925, in Gueydan, to the late Wintrop Damon and the late Gustavia Girard Damon. He was called to his heavenly father on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Iberia Medical Center. Whiney was a mechanic who enjoyed working on cars. Whitney also worked for Sims Crate Company, for a number of years. He was very fond of fishing. Some of his favorite past times were telling jokes and listening to Clifton Chenier, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Stevie Wonder, The Five BlindBoys of Alabama and other musicians.
Whitney is survived by his wife, Jeanette Damon of Jeanerette; one daughter, Carolyn Annette Damon (Jeffrey) Bayonne of Sacramento, California; two stepsons, Morrison (Sharon) Broussard Jr. of Franklin and Kevin (Adrienne) Broussard of Jeanerette; one brother, Edward Damon of Beaumont, Texas; two granddaughters, Monique Nicole Walton and Cymone Noel Damon; and a host of relatives and friends.
Whitney is preceded in death by his parents, Wintrop and Gustavia Damon; daughter, Rosalind Gayle Walton; two sisters, Laura Bernard and Theresa Washington; one brother, Clarence Kade; and his godmother, Leontine Hebert.
