Laureate Mu chapter Beta Sigma Phi celebrates chapter birthday

Members of Laureate Mu chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met in Lafayette at the home of Connie Jaubert on Oct. 7 for their regular meeting and to celebrate the chapter’s birthday.

“Yellowstone Park Part 2” was the title of the program presented by the hostess. Jaubert had previously given a program on the park, but this program was mainly about the dangers of the park and was based on a book entitled “Death In Yellowstone” by Lee H. Whittlesey.

In other national parks, deaths and injuries occur by drownings, falls, falling trees and rocks and lightning, but Yellowstone adds the novel ones of hot springs, grizzly bears, bison and poisonous gas.

Over 300 deaths are chronicled in the book, many due to the victims’ personal negligence.

In the business portion of the meeting, President Nancy Tislow reported that she had received from International the certificate verifying that the chapter had earned a three-star status for the previous year.

She also reviewed the October calendar  from International.

Several members attended the Sept. 14 opening of the “Five Friends from Acadia Parish” exhibit at the Gueydan museum in which the works of chapter member Shirley Griffin were featured.

Members brought paper towels to be delivered to Miss Helen’s Soup Kitchen.

The November meeting will be held at the home of Shirley Griffin.

Following the business portion of the meeting, secret sisters were revealed, gifts were exchanged and new secret sisters were chosen.

The hostess served delicious birthday cake to members Glenda Atkinson, Griffin, Jean Hanks, Brenella Joubert, Elsie Rowell, Gloria Stutes and Tislow.
