Laureate Mu members learn balance, stability exercises

Members of Laureate Mu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Shirley Griffin on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

Elsie Rowell, program chairman, introduced guest speaker Camille Gautreaux, owner and manager of Curves in Crowley. Gautreaux presented a program emphasizing the importance of exercises to improve balance, stability and core strength. She explained that improving balance can help prevent falls, especially in seniors. She also demonstrated to the group movements that can help improve balance and led members in some of these moves.

Members brought liquid dish detergent to be delivered to Miss Helen’s Soup Kitchen and were asked to bring paper towels to the next meeting.

In response to correspondence from International, the group approved the  endowment fund proposals. President, Nancy Tislow described the new project supported by the fund, Harvester’s Back Snack program, which serves almost 20,000 children each week.

Brenella Joubert and Glenda Atkinson are eligible to receive the exemplar degree. The ritual will be held at the May meeting.

Arrangements were made for the group to visit  the Bayou Teche Museum in New Iberia to view the exhibit “Rodrigue Comes Home: Under Iberia’s Live Oaks  with George Rodriguez and His Blue Dog” on March 26.

In addition to Griffin, Rowell and Tislow, members present were Glenda Atkinson, Jean Hanks, Connie Jaubert, Brenella Joubert and Gloria  Stutes.
