Lady Wolves to host Ursuline Academy in playoffs
The No. 7-ranked Rayne High Lady Wolves will host No. 26-seed Ursuline Academy during the first round of the 4A state basketball playoffs set for Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Rayne High north gym.
The Lady Wolves wrapped up a perfect 12-0 district record in District 4A play Friday as they rolled to a 60-21 win over Crowley High Friday.
Rayne opened the contest on the run scoring a 19-6 lead in the first quarter and extending to a 37-10 lead at the half and the eventual 60-21 win.
The Lady Wolves were led in scoring by Charlesha Dugas with 22 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
Whitley Larry added 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Tristan Mouton dumped in 9 points and 2 steals.
Completing the Rayne scoring were Amari Collins, Tajane Butler and Tasia Duhon, each with 4 points, a trey by Tarya Kanonu, and a bucket from Keysuana Moore.
Crowley was led by Taylor Dapremont with 6 points, Terra Breaux and NyKeila Winters with 4 each, and a bucket by Myah Rodgers and Hannah Hart.
With a win on Thursday, the Lady Wolves will hit the court on Monday in the second round when they will meet the winner of the St. Thomas More-Beau Chene game.
Wolves
The Rayne High Wolves slipped by Crowley High Friday, 41-38. The Wolves improved to 4-6 in league play and 11-14 overall.
The Wolves got off to a quick start and took a 14-11 advantage after the first quarter thanks in part to seven points from Rayne forward Drakkar Broussard.
Broussard added eight more of his 19 points in the second frame, but Crowley’s offense picked up pace for a 26-26 halftime score.
The Wolves outscored the Gents in the second half for the win.
Broussard paced the Wolves with 19 points and Charles Jones had 14.Trevon Fontenot added seven points, Dondracus Joseph and Braylin Bonnom each scored four and Jacoby White had a bucket.
The Wolves are scheduled to complete their district slate this week when they host Beau Chene on Tuesday, then travel to Opelousas on Friday.
