Patterson rallies past Warriors

CROWLEY - The Northside Christian Warriors had Class 3A Patterson on the ropes early in the two teams’ game Monday evening at Miller Stadium.
The Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, only to see the Lumberjacks’ rally and tie the game 4-4 after five innings.
That’s when the wheels fell off for the Warriors.
The Lumberjacks logged five hits and scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to slip away with a 9-4 victory over the Class C Warriors.
The hosts struck first, pushing across three runs in the opening frame on four two-out hits. Dillon Hayes’ singled to left field to plate the first run of the game and Koye Credeur drove home a run with a single to right. Collin Atkinson accounted for the final run of the inning when he reached base on an infield single that was just out of reach of the first baseman.
The Lumberjacks answered with a run of their own in the top of the third inning after a fielder’s choice, a hit batter and a walk loaded the bases. Kenny Singleton then scored on a wild pitch from NCS hurler Bradley Ancelet.
The Lumberjacks added another run in the fourth inning courtesy of an error and a double by Brad Beaubouef. They took a 4-3 lead an inning later on an RBI single by Jake LaGrange and a fielder’s choice.
The Warriors tied the game in the bottom of the frame when Christian Morgan doubled and eventually scored on an error.
But the Lumberjacks took the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning with their five-run outburst. Bryce Beaubouef singled in two runs; LaGrange had another RBI single; Brennan Gouaux added a sacrifice fly and the final run crossed the plate on an error.
The Warriors went down in order in the bottom of the sixth before LaGrange took the mound for the Lumberjacks in the seventh and closed the door, recording the final out on a pickoff at second base.
The Warriors had seven hits on the evening: Morgan and Kenneth Earles each had two hits while Hayes, Credeur and Atkinson each had one.
Gouaux was credited with the victory after throwing the first six innings for the Lumberjacks. He gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven.
Morgan suffered the loss in relief after surrendering five runs on six hits and one walk. Ancelet allowed four runs on five hits and five walks in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out three.
The Warriors return to action on Thursday when they play host to Bell City in a non-district contest. That game is slated for 6 p.m. at Miller Stadium.
