Marie “Hazel” Thibodeaux Prevost passed away while wrapped in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 1, 2015. Hazel was born on February 27, 1941, to Herbert and Emma “Rose” Thibodeaux. One of four children, she cherished her family above all things and would often reminisce about her childhood. Growing up, she loved riding horses with her father and sister. She spent a fair amount of time as a child drinking coffee with her grandmother, Louise Bearb Benoit. She adored her mother, and often spoke of her kindness and beauty. Those she leaves behind; especially her children, siblings, nieces and nephews; find much peace and comfort in the knowledge that she has now joined her loved ones in her eternal resting place. She was preceded also in death by her older sister, Marie Eldine Thibodeaux Breaux; as well as her former husband of thirty years, U.J. “Ducky” Prevost.
She leaves behind two children; her son, U.J. Prevost, Jr. and his wife, Kristi Olivier Prevost, of Rayne, LA; and her daughter, Emma Prevost Schneider and her husband, Chris Schneider, of Baton Rouge, LA. Her grandchildren; Sydni, Elizabeth, Jude, Hannah, and Josie will deeply miss their Grandma. She also leaves behind her younger sister Judy Thibodeaux Guidry, and her younger brother Robert Thibodeaux.
As her health began to fail, her niece, Rachel Latiolais Istre, enjoyed many drives with her Aunt Sis to various doctor’s appointments, as well as an occasional shopping spree for her grandchildren. The children’s closets along with her beloved niece, Rachel, will miss her too.
Hazel was an avid painter, who shared her unique artistic talents with many of her dear friends. She was a lifelong Rayne Garden Club member who loved creating new flower arrangements and, later in life, serving on their Judges Council. She happily held the position of the Rayne Garden Club chapter president, from 2009-2011. She looked forward to her many road trips to area flower shows throughout the state with her friends. Hazel contributed her time to the Rayne chapter of the sorority Beta Sigma Phi and enjoyed many social events and luncheons with the organization. She had a keen interest in history and was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Hazel was also instrumental in the establishment of the Bernard-Bertrand House, the historical home that now serves as the Rayne Cultural Center. She beamed with pride at the many Cleanest City titles bestowed on her town by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation. A graduate of Rayne High School, she loved attending functions with her former classmates, until her health no longer allowed. Her active participation in her church parish of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rayne, as well as her unyielding faith in God allowed her to meet life’s many challenges bravely, particularly in her final days.
A rosary will be recited Thursday, December 3, 2015 ,at 7:00 p.m. at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, LA.

Her family would like to thank the nurses, many caregivers, and doctors that assisted with her needs, particularly those associated with St. James Place in Baton Rouge, and The Baton Rouge Hospice. They were a great comfort. Her pastoral needs were met by St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, LA. Her family is grateful to the church for guiding her journey to meet her Savior. She now walks hand in hand with The Lord, enjoying coffee with her loving family, painting and arranging flowers with her caring friends that have gone before her. “Be Not Afraid, I Go Before You Always”.
