Gurvis George Leger Sr.

A home-going celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, at the First Pentecostal Church, 1715 N. State St. in Jennings, for Gurvis George Leger Sr., 90, who died at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Crowley.
Rev. James Townley, pastor, will officiate the services and the burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
Mr. Leger was a longtime member of the First Pentecostal Church in Jennings and enjoyed all the church activities and praising the Lord. He was a truck driver and lived in DeRidder for much of his life. He traveled the country carrying his blessed prayer cloth that he stills has today. He was employed by Fogelman Truck Line and retired after 35 years of service. He then moved to Hathaway to be closer to home. There he taught his grandchildren and great-grandchildren many things, including the love for the Lord and living a Godly life. He shared his love for the outdoors with his grandchildren especially gardening, raising livestock and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Elvie Abshire Leger of Jennings; four daughters, Yvonne Gypin (Travis) of Pineville, Ruby Mire (Buford) of Ball, Cathy Harris (Dean) of Crowley and Delana Bergeron of Sulphur; one son, Gurvis Leger Jr. (Cindy) of DeRidder; son-in-law, Bobby Linscombe (Cindy) of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Johnson Boudreaux; daughter, Neva L. Linscombe; and a grandson, Robert Linscombe.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Steven Harris, Mark Harris, Troy Mire, Preston Mire and Luke Leger and a great-grandson Jarrett Leblanc.
The family would like to thank the staff of Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Lamm Family Hospice Care and Dr. Saini for their loving care.
