Daniel Nicholas “Nappy” Landry
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 23, at 2 p.m. for Daniel Nicholas “Nappy” Landry, 90, of Rayne in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rayne. Father Samuel Fontana, associate pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will serve as celebrant. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery #2 Mausoleum in Rayne.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 22, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. in Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Mr. Landry passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at 5:15 p.m. in the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings.
A native and lifelong resident of Rayne, Mr. Landry was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He served his country honorably as a member of The Greatest Generation, and he was presented with a Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in combat. He was later a faithful member of American Legion.
Mr. Landry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and he lived out his faith as a member of Knights of Columbus, as a loving father and husband, and as an honest businessman. Mr. Landry was owner and operator of Landry’s Feed Store in Rayne and Crowley for over 60 years.
Lovingly known as “Nappy” to all who knew him, Mr. Landry enjoyed hunting, spending time outdoors and barbecuing. His greatest joy in life was spending time with and caring for his family.
Survivors include his wife of over 65 years, Cecile Dischler Landry of Rayne; sons, Daniel N. Landry Jr. and wife Alice of Rayne and Kenneth Landry of Rayne; daughter, Mary Claire Landry Ledlow and husband John of Vicksburg, Mississippi; brother, Reverend Oneil Landry of Centerville; and grandchildren, Sarah Lucille Landry of Lowell, Massachusetts, and Emily Claire Landry of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Preceding Mr. Landry in death were his parents, Ovide U. Landry and Marie Privat Landry; and brother, Kenneth Landry.
