Lois Jean “Titta” “Sister” Dabbs

A Celebration of Life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at Bethel C.M.E. Church for Ms. Lois Jean “Titta” “Sister” Dabbs, 80, who departed this life on June 28, 2016, just a few days shy of her 81st birthday.
Services will be conducted by Rev. George Chretian.
Interment will be held at the West Crowley Cemetery.
After graduating from Ross High School in 1955, Lois Jean pursued her career in nursing (geriatrics) and graduated from Purdue University in New Orleans. After working 30+ years at Lafayette Charity Hospital in Lafayette, she retired.
In 1993, Sister Dabbs was honored as a humanitarian for her missionary work in Acadia Parish presented by Janelle Chargois in Lafayette.
She served as a member of the Missionary Society for over 10 years and was president of Stewardess Board #4 for 28 years at Bethel CME Church. She also started Senior Citizens Day at Bethel in 1989 and it is still celebrated. She was a member of the Rice City Chapter #35 O.E.S. for over 30 years. Lois served as a monthly volunteer caller for the Council on Aging for the sick and shut-ins. She was a member of AARP for over 10 years and held the office of president during that time. She was a volunteer member of Hospice of Acadiana for 14 years.
She is leaves to mourn one sister, Theresa J. Sonnier of Crowley; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Minger and Artille Wilturner Johnson Dabbs; and siblings, George “Jackie” Dabbs, Iola, Dan, Vivian, Wilmer, Jim and Alma.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 9, at Bethel CME Church from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.
