Abner “Tom” Guidry Jr.

Funeral services will be held at Bethel CME Church on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 11 a.m. for Abner “Tom” Guidry Jr., 88, who died at Camelot Nursing Home on Jan. 19, 2016.
Visitation will be held at Wilturner Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 25, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Jan. 26 from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
Abner, better known as “Tom,” was born on Nov. 2, 1927, in Maxie to the late Abner Guidry Sr. and Louetta Guidry. On Oct. 16, 1952, he married Helen Carmouche Guidry and to this union three children were born.
He was baptized at Maryland Chapel CME Church in Branch and, after moving to Crowley, became a member of Bethel CME Church. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was so proud that he served his country well. He worked many years for MFC Rice Mill and, before retiring, was employed with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Tom loved to sing gospel songs and was blessed with a great voice. He was known to joke a lot and loved wearing his retired Army cap.
He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Harriett Bias of Crowley; two sons, Dennis (Cheryl) Guidry of Tampa, Florida, and Tony (Wendy) Guidry of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Isie Wiley of Abilene, Texas; a devoted grandson and caregiver, Floyd Allan Bias Jr. of Crowley; three grandchildren, Nicholas Guidry, Zachary Guidry and Anthony Payne, all of Tampa; six great-grandchildren, Jaelen Colby Bias of Crowley, Aliyah Payne, Angel Payne, Anthony Payne II and Ariyahna Payne, all of Tampa, and Alexius Ke’era Reed of Baton Rouge; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Carmouche Guidry; parents, Abner Guidry Sr. and Louetta Guidry; four sisters, Arkey Henry, Mildred Hudgins, Etta Lee Scott and Edmonia Sylvester; and his only brother, Manson Guidry.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilturner Funeral Home. Interment will be in Maryland Chapel Cemetery in Branch.
