Alice Vallier Andrus

Wilturner Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing. (2 Timothy 6-8)

CROWLEY – Funeral services for Alice Vallier Andrus, 88, will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. at Israelite Baptist Church in Crowley. Rev. Ivan Lewis will officiate the service. The family has requested that visitation be held at the church from 8:30 a.m. Saturday, until 10:30 a.m. Internment will be at West Crowley Cemetery in Crowley.

Alice Vallier Andrus, was born Aug. 25, 1926, to Mrs. Mary Thomas and Mr. Toussaint Vallier in Mallet. She answered the quiet yet beckoning voice of God and entered into sweet eternal rest as she departed this earthly life on Jan. 1, 2015. She fought the good fight, answered with willingness and went home to receive her heavenly reward.

Sister Andrus accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of the body of Christ and exhibited His love to all she encountered; demonstrating this within both the church and the community. She moved to Crowley, where she eventually met and later married Warren Lee Andrus Sr., who preceded her in death.

The biological mother of 12, four of whom preceded her in death – Alfred, Michael, Percy and Josephine — Momma Alice was a community mother helping all of the children she came into contact with through her 10 boys and two girls.

Although a small woman in statue, Sis Andrus had great influence in the lives of her children of whom she ensured were reared in the church and received decent educations despite her only completing the third grade. Mother Andrus was a member of the Israelite Baptist Church, joining church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Grady Poullard and attended church faithfully until her health prevented her from regular attendance.

Mother Andrus was an industrious woman who worked hard as a domestic and provided for her children all of her life. Mother Andrus was known in the community for her “entrepreneurial spirit.”

She leaves a loving family who will forever cherish her memories. She will be deeply missed by her sons and daughter, Elouise G. Beverly (Oakland, California), Johnny and Rita Bellard (Chesapeake, Virginia), Clarence and Patricia Bellard (Alamogordo, New Mexico), Houston and Ieshia Vallier (Stockton, California), Warren Andrus Jr. (Crowley), Walter Andrus (Crowley), Willie and Teresa Andrus (Lafayette) and Tracy and Sonya Andrus (Marshall, Texas); and a host of (176) grands, great-grands and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mother Andrus was preceded in death by her mother and father (Mary Thomas and Toussaint Vallier); husband (Warren Lee Andrus Sr.); and four children (Michael Andrus, Alfred Andrus, Percy Andrus and Josephine Ledet).
