Beatrix “Trixie” Cart
Beatrix “Trixie” Cart passed away early Saturday morning, June, 27, 2015, at her home in Crowley. She was 95. Along with her husband, Richard “Ray”, she raised eight children who love, honor and respect her memory.
She started her life journey in Iota on Feb. 11, 1920, in the big white house on the corner of Ash and Fourth Street. She attended St. Francis during her elementary and high school years, and then went on to the big city of Baton Rouge to continue her education.
Upon her graduation from LSU, she earned a degree in education. Her first teaching job was in Estherwood as a home economics teacher with the grand salary of $90 per month. She eventually gave Acadia Parish more than 25 years service as a teacher, most of that time at Iota High School as the home economics teacher along with her good friend and colleague, Irene Durio.
To this day, many people still ask about “Mrs. Cart” and say how much they enjoyed and respected her as their teacher.
Her personal life revolved around her husband of 71 years and her eight children. She was a patient, devoted wife and mother. She successfully applied her home economics skills to providing for her family’s every need.
She lived a long life full of family, friends and travel. Upon her retirement, she and her husband Ray took an extended trip up to Nova Scotia, camping in a tent all the way — she was a trooper! Eventually they bought a “Minnie Winnie” camper and over the years, this camper was upgraded. She and Ray traveled extensively to many parts of the United States, Canada and Europe, where they had many adventures and made many friends.
She was a past member of the Red Bobbin Sewing & Rosary Group, a member of the Red Stick Winnies Winnebago club and an avid lover of painting, fishing and traveling.
She is survived by three of her siblings and her eight children. Her surviving siblings are Emma Lee Sanches, Lucille Mae “Lou” Hebert and Joann Barbara Quirk. Her children include Michelle Cart Akers and husband Toby, Richard Paul Cart, Bruce Anthony Cart and wife Lynda, Maggie Cart Metzler and husband John, Mary Cart LaPointe, Claire Cart Lawyer, Christopher Joseph Cart and Kelly Cart Leonards and husband Jude. She is also loved and remembered by her 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Richard “Ray” Cart; and her father and mother, Gaston LeBlanc and Beatrice Lina LeBlanc. Also preceding her are three of her siblings, Gaston “Bus” LeBlanc Jr., Rose Marie “Bobbie” Ronkartz and Jack Henry LeBlanc. She also joins her grandson, Matthew Paul LaPointe.
The family of Mrs. Cart would like to thank all family and friends for their support and love. We would like to give special thanks and love to our sister, Claire, who willingly and faithfully attended to Mom’s needs for the past three years, giving up her job and her own family. Special thanks to Rosa Thomas Clement, her caretaker, confidante and dance partner in her final years. We would also like to thank the wonderful people of Family Choice Care for their support and concern during Mom’s long convalescence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at St, Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. Jude Thierry will celebrate the Mass and the Committal Services in the St. Joseph Cemetery of Iota.
