Bonnie Bell Lyons

 

Funeral services will be held at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in  Mire on Sunday, April 12, at 3 p.m. for Bonnie Bell Lyons, 82, who died Friday, April 3, 2015, at her residence in Bosco where she left family and friends to join the Lord.

Interment will be in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery in Mire. 

Surviving are one daughter, Peggy Lyons Breaux and husband John; one son, Bryon “Keith” Lyons; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Preston Lyons; one son, Herbert “Bert” Lyons; father, Joseph Venable; and mother, Estelle Prejean Venable.

Early in Bonnie’s marriage they moved to Thibodaux, where she taught at West Junior High and attended Nicholls State University, where she received her master’s degree in education.

In 1970 the family moved back to Acadia Parish, where she was a teacher and counselor in Acadia Parish. Then she became principal at Branch Elementary for many years. She served as district and state president of the Retired Teacher Board.

She was a parishioner of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church where she served on both the Ladies Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters Court No. 2214 of America. In the Mire community she was on the Ladies Auxiliary for the Mire Fire Department.

Friends will be received at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire on Sunday, April 12, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
