Ervin James Bourg
Rayne--It is with heavy heart and deep sadness that the family of Ervin James Bourg announces his passing on November 25, 2015, at 9:15 p.m. in Southlake, TX. He was born on September 3, 1927, to the union of Clarence Samuel Bourg and Cornelia Hebert in Baton Rouge, LA.
Ervin was a resident of Baton Rouge for 74 years, Central for 40 of those years, and Breaux Bridge for 14 years.
Ervin attended Sacred Heart School, and graduated from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, serving until 1947. After military service he attended Louisiana State University. He worked for the United States Postal Service, and later for Allied Signal Corporation until 1982.
Ervin is preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Joanna Istre Bourg; his father, Clarence Bourg, Sr.; mother, Cornelia Hebert Bourg; brother, Clarence Bourg, Jr.; and nephew, John Michael.
He is survived by his son, Paul and wife, Dawn, of Haslet, TX; granddaughter, Christina Joanna and husband, Robert Reed, and their daughter, Kiley Istre of Ogden, UT; grandson, Christopher Ervin Bourg of the United States Navy, and his wife, Kandace, and their daughters, Cheyenne Elizabeth and Kyra Leigh; his brother, T.J. and wife, Lorraine of Baton Rouge; sisters, Martha Bourg of Baton Rouge, and Annie (Elizabeth) Bourg of New Orleans; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him deeply.
Ervin was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, and St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge. He dedicated many enjoyable hours to the upkeep and cleaning of both churches, and he looked upon his fellow parishioners as family. He was a gifted craftsman, and he enjoyed creating the ideas of his wife into realization. All of the items he crafted are cherished possessions of friends and family.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Leo IV Catholic Church, Roberts Cove, LA on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Father Mark Melancon will serve as celebrant. Inurnment of his cremated remains will follow in the church cemetery.
