Evelyn Trahan “Red” Istre

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Evelyn Trahan “Red” Istre, 96, who died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at 6:30 a.m. at Southwind Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Fr. Mikel Polson, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will be officiating the services. The family requests visiting hours be held Monday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Istre was a devoted member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church since its beginning. She worked at Louisiana Bank for many years and then was the receptionist at Broussard, Poche, Lewis, and Breaux until her retirement in 1986.
She is survived by six sons, Dennis J. Istre and wife Mary Beth of Crowley, Michael H. Istre of Crowley, Gerald W. Istre and wife Sandra of Lafayette, Gregory P. Istre and wife Robyn of Crowley, Ray C. Istre of Waco, Texas, and Anthony J. “Tiger” Istre and wife Debby of Evangeline; one sister, Patricia T. Schneider and husband Ray of Roberts Cove; one brother, R.C. Trahan and wife Mac of Tucker, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Mary S. Trahan of Crowley; 19 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Istre was preceded in death by her husband, Harry J. Istre; her parents, Calise and Amy Simon Trahan; two sisters, Ruby M. Trahan, and Rita T. Privat; and one brother, Glady J. Trahan.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Redemptorist Catholic School, 606 S. Avenue N, Crowley, LA 70526.
The family wishes to thank, Dr. Robert Aertker, the entire staff of Southwind Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice Compassus for their dedication, care and love of Mrs. “Red” these last seven months.
