Gerald “Francis” Leger

A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, April 14, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Gerald “Francis” Leger, who died unexpectedly on Sunday evening, April 10, 2016, at 11:15 p.m. in Lafayette.
Francis was born in Church Point on May 22, 1941, and has been a lifelong resident of Acadia and Lafayette parishes in South Louisiana. Francis received his Bachelor’s degree in 1964 from University of Southwestern Louisiana (now UL Lafayette), then received his Master’s degree from McNeese State University in 1972. He spent over 30 years as an educator and counselor, helping students of all ages during his career.
Francis lived a wonderful and full life. He loved music, playing golf, and all types of dancing including ball room dance, Cajun and Zydeco dance, and even Latin dance. He could often be found at the country club with his usual four or five golfing buddies or at one the local dance hot spots.
He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Jeanne and James Davidson and Winona and Mike Istre; his grandsons Gabriel Pate and Joshua Pate; and his granddaughters, Cory Etheredge and Kelsey Etheredge Mach and husband Thai Mach.
Francis always had a deep wish to donate his body to science so that others may benefit from scientific research.
Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand J. Leger and Cecile Smith Leger (both of Church Point); and one brother, Harold J. Leger (of Rayne).
The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc. of Crowley, is in charge of all arrangements.
