Grace Broussard Delcambre
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Grace Broussard Delcambre, 81, who passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at Cornerstone Village South, Inc., in Lafayette.
Visitation will be observed on Wednesday, Jan. 13, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and resumes Thursday, Jan. 14, at 8 a.m. until the time of services, at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.
A rosary will be recited Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia.
Rev. Father Howard J. Blessing, pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate.
Grace was born June 19, 1934, in Milton to the late Jerome Broussard and Elodie Bourque Broussard. She graduated with honors from Milton High School and attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute, presently known as UL.
Before her marriage, Grace worked for a local architect, Robert Stephens. After her marriage in 1953, to Sterling Delcambre of New Iberia, she became a full-time homemaker and loving mother of four children.
Grace enjoyed gardening, reading and cooking. Her family enjoyed the many wonderful meals at her table. Although she never spoke of it and was humble about the help she gave to others, Grace was a very kind and generous woman. She cooked holiday meals for families in need, volunteered at food banks like St. Joseph’s Diner and loved to share gift certificates given to her with the needy and elderly.
Most of all, Grace was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved spending time with her family and friends. “Granny” will be missed by all.
Grace is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Sterling Joseph Delcambre; her children, Ramona Viguerie and husband Bob and Michael, Thomas and Kendall Delcambre; her grandchildren, Joseph Delcambre and wife Mariah, Sarah Palmer and husband John, Matthew Viguerie and wife Liz, Ben Delcambre, David Delcambre and Layla Fontenot and husband Greg; great grandchildren, Sebastian, Fisher, Jackson, Mason, Harper, Copeland and Braylon; brother, Delfred Broussard; and numerous dear nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Wilfred and wife Flo, Vernice and wife Zula, Lloyd and wife Eunice, and Clifford; and her sister, Lucille and husband Harvey Bourque.
Pallbearers will be Joe Delcambre, Matt Viguerie, Ben Delcambre, David Delcambre, John Palmer and Todd Broussard.
Honorary pallbearers are Sarah Palmer, Layla Fontenot, Bob Viguerie and Tracey Broussard.
The family wishes to thank Sandy Elkins, Bill Verret, Thelma Doughty and the Jimmy Latiolais family for the compassionate care given to Grace and her family and for their continuous support over the years.
