Hilda Marie Breaux
Rayne- Hilda Marie Leger Breaux died on the morning of October 22, 2015, at her residence in Indian Bayou, a quarter of a mile from where she was born on January 21, 1921, to Cleveland Leger, Sr. and Euphlie Boudreaux Leger. She was the second born and oldest daughter of their union.
Hilda attended Indian Bayou High School until fifth grade, when she quit to help take care of her family. On November 5, 1939 she married Stallace Joseph Breaux, and they were married 46 years until his death on February 20, 1986. They were the owners Breaux’s Grocery Store in Indian Bayou. Hilda operated the store and pumped gas for 15 years.
Hilda was a kind and generous woman who loved watching soap operas, sewing, and working in her yard. She had a special talent for cooking, and her family will miss her rice and gravy, and her cornbread dressing. Hilda was a parishioner of St. Basil Catholic Church and a member of its Ladies’ Altar Society.
Survivors include her son, Harold Lee Breaux and wife, Bonnie Henry Breaux, of Indian Bayou; granddaughter, Angie Breaux Hebert and husband, John, of Indian Bayou; grandsons, Kimmy Breaux of Indian Bayou, and Joey Breaux and wife, Lisa Garrie Breaux, of Indian Bayou; great-grandsons, Micah Breaux and wife, Camille Broussard Breaux, Eric Hebert, Skyler Hebert, Trevor Hebert, and Tristan Breaux; great-granddaughter, Lanie Breaux; great-great-grandson, Elliot James Breaux; great-great-granddaughter, Evelyn Grace Breaux; and sister, Ida Leger of Lafayette.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Cleveland Leger, Jr. and Richard Leger; and sister-in-law, Hilda Mae Leger.
Visitation will be held at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne on Monday, October 26, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with a rosary being recited at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rayne, with entombment following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery No. 2 Mausoleum, Rayne.
Serving as pallbearers are Joey Breaux, Kimmy Breaux, Micah Breaux, Eric Hebert, Skyler Hebert, and Trevor Hebert. Named as honorary pallbearer is Tristan Breaux.
The family wishes to thank Hilda’s caregivers, Vivian Rougeaux, Cheri Castille, Mathilda Solomon, Dee Plumlee, Bree Tomlin, and Clara Wagner.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Sisters of Mt. Carmel, and St. Basil Catholic Church.
