James C. Richey Jr.

James C. Richey Jr., 88, of Egan passed away at 5:36 a.m. on Oct. 30, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
The funeral service will be held at The First Presbyterian Church in Crowley on Nov. 2, at 11:30 a.m. The Reverend Jimmy Broussard will be officiating for the services with Steven Testone sharing the message.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home and Monday from 10 a.m. to the time of service at First Presbyterian Church.
Interment will follow at Woodlawn Mausoleum.
J.C. was born in Crowley on April 29, 1927. He graduated from Egan High School and attended Southwestern University for three semesters before enlisting in the Navy. He served his country in Guam during World War II. J.C was also a lifetime Mason.
He was a farmer in Acadia Parish and a school bus driver for Egan Elementary School for 34 years and served on the Acadia Parish Drainage Board. J.C. loved the outdoors and after retirement he became an avid gardener. He delighted in showing off his vegetable garden and fruit trees and sharing its yield with family and friends.
J.C. is preceded in death by his parents, James C. Richey Sr. and Fern Truax Richey; and sister, Lois Richey Miller.
His greatest passion and love was family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Nona Mae Martin Richey; daughter Karen Richey Funderburk and husband Reid of Austin, Texas, daughter Donna Richey LeBlanc and husband Carl of Lafayette, son Dr. James C. Richey III and wife Karen of Egan, and son Kenneth B. Richey and wife Sharon of Lafayette.
He was “Gramps” to 11 grandchildren, Kristi Funderburk Priddy, Ashlie Funderburk Cobb, Lyndsey Funderburk Testone, Jaclyn Funderburk Benson, Jamie Richey Brodhead, Dr. Kyle Richey, Korey Richey, Tiffany Richey Beaugh, Tyler Richey, Garrett LeBlanc and Lauren LeBlanc; and 12 great-grandchildren, Ashton Priddy, Riley Priddy, Avery Priddy, Kate Testone, Jack Testone, Meg Testone, Lane Brodhead, Claire Brodhead, Maggie Cobb, Emma Benson, Hayes Richey, and Jade Benson.
Those honored to be pallbearers will be Reid Funderburk, Carl LeBlanc, Kyle Richey, Korey Richey, Garrett LeBlanc and Tyler Richey.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Compassus Hospice and Lenora George. A sincere appreciation to Dr. Robert Aertker and staff for his compassion and wonderful care of our dad.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley.
