Katie Erdmith Robinson

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church for Katie Erdmith Robinson, 80, who passed on Sept. 30, 2015, at Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Crowley.
Pastor Donald Burnette will officiate the service. Interment will be in West Crowley Cemetery.
Katie was an active member of Morning Star where her early Christian education began. The strong foundation she received enabled her to assist others by serving as Sunday Church School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, choir member, Deaconess, president of the Mission and in many other ministries of service to her church.
Katie also received her early secular training in Crowley. After graduating from Crowley Industrial High School (H.C. Ross), she attended Grambling State University, where she was awarded the Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She was hired as classroom teacher in the Acadia Parish School System after graduating from Grambling. While at Grambling, she was inducted as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
She continued her secular training by enrolling at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (ULL) where she earned the Master of Education and also completed certification as a guidance counselor. She worked in the latter capacity and retired from the Acadia Parish School System in 1992.
Still continuing the desire to learn more, she expanded her knowledge by attending Christian Education classes on the district, state and national levels. All of the latter enabled her to serve successfully as the historian for the Women’s Department, Key Activist Scholarship Committee and a member of the Seventh District Baptist Association Board of Directors.
All of Katie’s endeavors and successes can be traced back to the fact that her parents considered Christian and secular education a premium in her upbringing. Her father, Ned Julius Robinson Sr., passed early in her life; however, her mother, Mrs. Sadie Berneice Jackson Robinson, along with her maternal grandmother, Adeline Jackson, continued to lead and guide her in the right direction. Her service in the community was widespread. She was a member of the Rice City Chapter No. 35, where she served as Worthy Matron, secretary and District Deputy.
Mourning her loss, yet rejoicing in her purposeful life are her brother, Ned J. Robinson (Inez) of Gueydan; her sisters, Bettye R. Jackson (James) of Lafayette and Wilda Robinson of Crowley; eight nephews and six nieces whom she considered her children, and a host of great nieces and nephews and many devoted relatives and caring friends.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents; maternal grandmother; her aunt, Katie Eugene (Paul), for whom she was named; maternal uncles, Tommy, Danny and Lemmie Jackson; and paternal uncles, Daniel Lockes, Carter and Joe Robinson.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church from 8 a.m. until time of service.
