Martha Pond Smith
The family and friends of Martha P. Smith are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life on Sept. 13, 2015, at the age of 87.
Martha was born in Parma, Idaho, to Cecil Pond and Hazel Betts Pond on Oct. 18, 1927. Martha was a resident of Gueydan for more than 70 years. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church of Gueydan, that she loved dearly. She was a homemaker, who devoted her life to take care of her family. Martha also loved flowers, fishing and being outdoors. She also liked baking and canning for her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her and fondly remembered for her giving spirit.
Martha is survived by her five sons, Fisk T. Smith III (Kathy) of Boise, Idaho, James Everett Smith (Denise) of West Lafayette, Indiana, Leo Paul Smith (Diane) of Gueydan, Dale Irwin Smith (Theresa) of Gueydan and Gordon Emick Smith (Deanne) of Joplin, Missouri; three daughters, Janet Elaine Smith Rozas (James) of Youngsville, Lottie Smith Humphries (Dennis) of Gulf Breeze, Florida, and Mary Smith Herpin (Floyd) of Gueydan; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, F.T. Smith Jr.; her parents, Cecil and Hazel Pond; as well as three grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services for Martha Nellie Smith will be held at First United Methodist Church in Gueydan on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joe Hoover and Deacon Ellices Rices officiating. Burial will follow in the Gueydan Cemetery.
Visitation was held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Gueydan on Monday, Sept. 14, from 3:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. and resumes on Tuesday at 7 a.m. until the time of her funeral service.
Carrying Martha to her final resting place will be James Rozas, Elizabeth Rozas, Michael Smith, Aaron Herpin, Adam Herpin and Michael Lasher.
