Mercedes Virginia Hebert

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mercedes Virginia Hebert, 76, of Egan will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mermentau on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. with Msgr. Paul Mertejean officiating.

Visitation began at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Monday, Oct. 13, at 12:30 p.m. and will continue until the time of her funeral Mass. A rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Monday.

Virginia will be laid to rest in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery.

Virginia was born in Crowley on Aug. 27, 1936, to the late Chester and Mercedes Duhon Guidry and was called to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014. Virginia was a beautician for 30-plus years.

In 1953 Virginia was the runner up for queen of the Rice Festival. She loved to cook and play bingo. Virginia prayed the rosary every day. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Virginia is survived by her beloved husband, Charles N. Hebert of Egan; two sons, Ronald “Captain Ron” Blaine Oliver of Mermentau and Rodney Paul Oliver of Mermentau; two brothers, Bennett Guidry of Mermentau and Steven Guidry of Mermentau; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Virginia now rests in Heaven with her beloved family who preceded her in death: her parents, Chester and Mercedes Guidry; first husband, Theodore Oliver Jr.; one son, Theodore “Teddy” Oliver III; two brothers, Calvin Chester Guidry and Errol Guidry; and one granddaughter, Brittany Fae Oliver.
