William Wayne Gray Jr.

William Wayne Gray Jr. passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at the age of 65 after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 16, 1950, in Crowley to William and Daisey Kilmer Gray and was the brother of the late Johnny Gray and Tracy Gray.
Wayne is survived by his wife and best friend of 37 years, Kathy; his two children, Scott Gray (Laura) and Erin Gray (Nick); his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peggy and Jerry Dauterive; two nieces; a nephew; his great-nieces and nephews; and is also survived by his two pets, Macie and Cinda, whom he loved dearly.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and went on to earn a business degree from Louisiana State University. He was able to travel the world during a successful career in the logistics industry before retiring early and becoming self-employed.
He was an active member in the Slidell community, serving as a youth athletics coach for several years and then, more recently, volunteering for St. Margaret Mary Church, including being an active member of the St. Margaret Mary’s Men’s Club.
He was also an active board member for Krewe de Paws of Olde Towne.
Wayne enjoyed reading, especially Harry Potter, movies, traveling, celebrating holidays and most importantly to him, spending time with his wife and children.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell, on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m.
Visitation on Thursday after 11 a.m. until funeral time.
