Opelousas Little Theatre presents Wit
Opelousas Little Theatre proudly presents Wit. Wit is a Pulitzer Prize winning play, by Margaret Edson, about Vivian Bearing, Ph.D., a renowned scholar and professor of poetry. She is diagnosed with stage-four ovarian cancer and undergoes a strenuous eight-month experimental chemotherapy treatment, which reverses her status as an educator, turning her into an object of study in a teaching hospital.
Vivian says: “One thing can be said for an eight-month course of cancer treatment: it is highly educational. I am learning to suffer.” Wit uses humor and wit to transport the audience into Vivian’s world, where she comes to reassess her life and work with depth and humor that are transformative both to her and the audience. The performances for Wit will at the Opelousas Little Theatre August 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, 15th, and 16th at 7 p.m. and a matinee August 10th, at 2 p.m.
Tickets are available at Sebastien Dupre Sibille Fine Jewellery and Florist (337) 948-4367. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. All tickets are $10.
The play is directed by Travis Fontenot of Ville Platte, whom you can see on the Cox Communications commercials airing around south Louisiana. Wit features Cheryl Patin and Bruce Coen of Lafayette and Tyler Devillier, Ashley Brown, and Sheryl Ned of Opelousas. In conjunction with Wit, the Opelousas Little Theatre will be taking donations to give to the American Cancer Society. If you make a donation, you will receive a thank you gift from the theatre.
