District diamond action continues for Wolves, Ladies

The Wolves and Ladies were in full action over the weekend, both participating in tournaments. In addition, both squads saw district action on Thursday.
Wolves
Over the weekend, the Wolves hosted their annual tournament at Gossen Memorial Park in Rayne where they met strong hurlers and were limited in their scoring.
In their opening game on Friday, the Wolves belted out 15 hits but fell short with a 15-10 loss to Sacred Heart of Ville Platte.
Sacred Heart got out to a 8-0 lead over the Wolves before the hosting team was able to light up their side of the scoreboard in the third inning.
Rayne scored their first two runs as Grant Abshire doubled in Hunter Keely and Jaylon Reed.
Sacred Heart extended their lead to 15-2 before the Rayne bats got swinging in the final innings. Despite four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, the Wolves could not score a comeback and ended on the loosing side of the 15-10 ballgame.
Hunter Keely and Brice Meche helped with the sixth inning rally, and Jaylon Reed and Grant Abshire contributed to the last inning RBI’s.
TJ Bearb and Austin Coleman threw for the Wolves as they collected six strikeouts and while giving up eight hits.
In their second contest of the tournament on Saturday, the Wolves were only able muster five hits and two runs as they fell to Hanson, 12-2.
Hunter Keely crossed the plate off a RBI single by T-Jun Doucet for Rayne’s first run of the ballgame.
Doucet scored Rayne only other run of the day off a Hunter Meche single.
In earlier action on Thursday, Rayne traveled to Lake Charles where they fell 6-1 to LaGrange in district play.
The Wolves’ only run came in the sixth on a sacrifice by Ivy Thibodeaux, scoring Grant Abshire.Hunter Keely and Jacob Hebert shared pitching duties for the Wolves.
The Wolves are scheduled to travel to Baton Rouge where they are to meet Redemptorist in a non-league game before returning home today (Thursday) when host LaGrange in a district tilt. The weekend will bring a home match-up against Crowley High at Gossen Memorial Park in Rayne on Saturday. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
LADY WOLVES
The Rayne bats were silent Thursday as they fell 2-0 to Beau Chene.
Brittney Rodriquez threw a seven-inning shutout and fanned eight Rayne batters for the Beau Chene win.
Rayne’s Kelcie Bourgeois went six scoreless innings on the mound before Beau Chene scored two runs on two doubles for the win.
Collecting the lone three hits for the Lady Wolves were Bourgeois with a double and singles by Blair Bergeron and Whitney Fontenot.
Over the weekend, Rayne traveled to Sulphur for a two-day tournament cut short by weather.
Their lone game on Friday saw the Lady Wolves fall short in a close 5-4 contest to Starks.
Trailing 3-0 in the fifth, Rayne saw Blaire Bergeorn and Ashley Thibodeaux both score on sacrifice hits by Whitney Fontenot and Thibodeaux.
The Lady Wolves took a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning as Cecily Schexnyder and Kaie Benoit scored on a Gabrielle Peltier double.
But, Rayne’s lead was short-lived as Starks answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to hold on to a 5-4 win.
The Lady Wolves are slated to meet Opelousas and Notre Dame this week before traveling to Washington-Marion today (Thursday) for a district double-header.
