Ladies begin district with win

The Lady Wolves added three more wins during recent volleyball action, including a district win in their first district outting.
In a Thursday afternoon contest at Crowley High, the Lady Wolves claimed a three-game district win (25–19, 25-9, 25-9).
Center hitter Charlesha Dugas led kills for Rayne with 11, along with 3 aces and 2 blocks.
Tarya Kanonou added 6 more kills for the Lady Wolves, in addition to three by Katie Benoit and Charlyne Peltier.
Layni Boudreaux led in assists with 8 while chipping in two kills of her own, while Peltier added 7 assists.
The Lady Wolves also recorded wins over Northside and Lafayette High last week.
In the Northside win (25-9, 25-15, 25-9) middle hitter/blocker Tarya Kanonou led stats with 7 kills, 3 aces and a dig.
Charlesha Dugas followed up with 5 kills, 1 ace and 2 digs.
Katie Benoit, Blair Bergeron and Tajane Butler added net play as well.
Boudreaux and Peltier again led assists on the day setting up Rayne’s offense, while back row player Karla Richard led in defensive digs.
In the win over Lafayette High (25-23, 25-17, 25-14), Dugas and Kanonu each recorded 7 kills apiece. Dugas led with 4 blocks while Kanonu had 2.
Katie Benoit followed with 6 kills, 3 aces and 8 digs on the day, while Blair Bergeron recorded 2 kills, 2 aces and 4 digs.
Setters Layni Boudreaux (10) and Charlyne Peltier (14) hit double figures with assists. Boudreaux also had 2 kills and 2 digs, while Peltier hit 1 kill and 1 ace.
Richard led on the back row once again.
The Lady Wolves will face Northwest today (Thursday) during a district contest, followed by another road trip to North Vermilion on Monday before returning home to host Eunice on Tuesday.
