Ladies fall short to AJ Ellender in Playoffs

HOUMA - The No. 9-ranked Lady Wolves traveled to AJ Ellender Monday evening where they fell short in the regional round of the 4A state playoffs.
Despite a two-point game at the half, the Lady Patriots took control of the contest in the second half with a stingy press and 3-pointers for a 60-41 win.
Lady Wolf Whitley Larry led the Rayne attack with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 8 blocks.
Teammate Charlesha Dugas dumped in 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Tanner Wilson and Tristan Mouton each had 6 points on the night, Tori Carrier with 4 and Cierra Harmon with a trey.
Bi-District Win
The Lady Wolves began post-season Thursday with a 74-51 bi-district win over Franklin Parish of Winnsboro at home.
Leading the way for the Lady Wolves during their Class 4A bi-district win was junior guard Charlesha Dugas, who dumped in a game-high 32 points, 23 of those coming in the second half of play when Rayne pulled away for the win.
In addition to Dugas’ 32 points, 4 rebounds and 7 steals, teammate Cierra Harmon was also tough in the lane scoring 13 points while collecting 9 rebounds, five of which were on offense for points.
Tori Carriere and Whitley Larry both hit double digits with 10 each on the night. In addition, Carriere recorded 7 rebounds and a steal, while Larry held her own with 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 7 blocks before leaving the game with leg cramps.
Tanner Wilson finished with four points and 7 steals, and Tristan Mouton had a trey and 4 steals.
The Lady Wolves held a slim 26-20 lead for the halftime break before hitting their stride with a 24-point third quarter behind a productive man-to-man defense including a stingy press. Both teams finished up with a 24-point final quarter with Rayne maintaining a distant lead for the win.
