The Rayne High Lady Wolves Volleyball Team began their 2015-2016 season during a jamboree held Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Teurlings Catholic High School.
The Lady Wolves won all three of their matches (Academy of Sacred Heart of Grand Coteau 26-16, St Thomas More 25-23, Notre Dame 25-23).
“We handled things pretty well,” stated Rayne High Volleyball Coach Stephanie Garrett of the opening jamboree. “We played some good teams and we’re looking pretty good at this early stage of the season.”
Leading Rayne High stats throughout the jamboree were:
Katie Benoit - 3 kills, 1 assist, 3 digs;
Blair Bergeron - 1 kill, 2 assists, 1 ace;
Charlesha Dugas - 8 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks;
Layni Boudreaux - 3 kills, 12 assists, 1 ace;
Tarya Kanonu - 8 kills, 1 assist, 2 digs;
Charlyne Peltier - 2 kills, 9 assists, 2 digs, 1 block;
Karla Richard - 1 kill, 4 digs; and
Landri Reviere - 4 digs.
“We have a few kinks to workout,” Garrett notes. “Our serving was great this week only missing 3 serves in 3 games. Our offense is taking shape, had a few miscues; but all in all, we had a pretty good start.”
The Lady Wolves were scheduled to meet Acadiana High this week in Lafayette on Wednesday, followed by another road trip today at Sam Houston High in Lake Charles.
They will attend a tournament this weekend at Westlake, and will return home on Wednesday, Sept. 9, when they will host former district foe Teurlings High. Freshman, junior varsity and varsity action is planned to begin at 4 p.m. at the Rayne High School north gym.
