Lady Wolves fall short at state tournament

KENNER - The No.5-ranked Lady Wolves Volleyball Team met No. 4-ranked Parkview Baptist on Thursday during the quarterfinal round of the 2014 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Volleyball State Tournament (Nov. 13-15 at the Pontchartrain Center).
During the three-game match, Parkview knocked Rayne High out of the state running, 17-25, 15-25, 17-25.
A strong Parkview front row controlled the match tempo and a mobile defense limited the Rayne offense during the three-game matchup.
Leading the Rayne net play were Charlesha Dugas and Katie Benoit, each with five kills and five digs.
Completing the Rayne spikers for the day were Tarya Kanonu with 3 kills and a block, Blair Bergeron with four kills, and one by Layni Boudreaux.
Boudreaux led assists on the day with nine, followed by Tristan Mouton, Ashly Thibodeaux and Charlyne Peltier each with three.
Back row digs by the Lady Wolves was led by Whitney Fontenot with eight, five by Shelli Alleman, Dugas and Benoit.
The Lady Wolves qualified for the State Tournament (Nov. 13-15 at the Pontchartrain Center) by defeating Berwick High last Monday in the regional round of the 4-A state playoffs.
“We got where we wanted to be,” commented Coach Stephanie Garrett on qualifying for the State Tournament after the quarterfial loss. “We wanted to be here and we are. We just fell short on the win. We just played a good team here today.”
