Lady Wolves improve on volleyball season

The Rayne High Lady Wolves Volleyball Team improved their season record to 5-1 with a number of road contests.
Rayne traveled to Lafayette where they defeated Acadiana High (18-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-5, 15-11) in a close five-game match-up against the 5-$ opponent.
Lady Wolf center hitter/blocker Tarya Kanonu led Rayne hitting with 15 kills, along with 3 aces, 1 assist, 3 digs and 1 block.
Finishing off the Rayne attack were: Katie Benoit 6 kills, 6 digs; Blair Bergeron 3 kills; Layni Boudreaux 1 ace, 4 kills, 11 assists, 4 digs; Charlesha Dugas 4 aces, 6 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks; Charlyne Peltier 2 aces, 1 kill, 13 assists, 4 digs, 1 block; Landri Reviere 4 digs; and Karla Richard 3 digs.
The Lady Wolves traveled to Sam Houston High School on Thursday and collected a four-game win (25-21, 25 – 19, 20 – 25, 25-18).
The Rayne High attack was pretty even for the win as follows: Katie Benoit – 6 kills, 1 ace, 3 digs; Charlesha Dugas – 7 kills, 6 aces; Layni Boudreaux – 3 kills, 1 ace, 8 assists; Tarya Kanonu – 4 kills, 1 ace, 4 digs, 2 blocks; Blair Bergeron – 3 kills, 2 digs; Karla Richard – 9 digs; Charlyne Peltier – 4 kills, 1 ace, 12 assists; and Tajane’ Butler – 5 digs.
During the weekend Westlake Tournament, which included only round robin play, saw the Lady Wolves go 3-1 overall.
In their first contest, Rayne recorded a three-game win over Sulphur High School (25-13, 22-25, 15-10).
Kanonu led in kills with seven, along with an ace. The Rayne offense included: Katie Benoit – 4 aces, 2 kills, 4 assists, 1 block, 4 digs; Charlesha Dugas – 3 aces, 5 kills, 2 digs; Layni Boudreaux - 4 aces, 4 kills, 8 assists, 2 digs; and Charlyne Peltier – 2 kills, 7 assists, 1 dig.
Their second win of the day came against St. Louis High School (25-11, 25-21).
Katie Benoit and Tarya Kanonu each recorded five kills, while Charlesha Dugas had four.
Layni Boudreaux led assists with eight, followed by Charlyne Peltier with seven.
The Lady Wolves took two straight games for a win over Leesville High School.
Charlesha Dugas and Katie Benoit each led kills with eight each, while Tarya Kanonu recorded seven.
Charlyne Peltier had 3 kills and 3 assists, while Layni Boudreaux donated 3 kills, 1 block, 9 assists. Tajane’ Butler recorded 2 aces, 6 assists.
In the final game of the tournament, the Lady Wolves collected their first loss of the early season against Westlake High School (26-28, 25-20, 17-19).
Leading kills for the game were Tarya Kanonu (6 kills, 1 block, 1 dig) and Blair Bergeron (6 kills, 2 digs).
Helping the effort were: Katie Benoit – 5 kills, 2 digs; Charlesha Dugas – 3 kills, 1 block, 1 dig; Layni Boudreaux – 1 ace, 2 kills, 12 assists, 3 digs; Tajane’ Butler – 2 digs; Karla Richard – 3 digs; and Charlyne Peltier – 1 ace, 1 kill, 7 assists, 3 digs.
The Lady Wolves were scheduled to host Teurlings Catholic Wedneday afaternoon, followed by the Dutchtown Tournament slated in Baton Rouge this weekend.
They will return home on Tuesday, Sept. 15, when they will host Catholic High of New Iberia. Freshman, junior varsity and varsity action is planned to begin at 4 p.m. at the Rayne High School north gym.
