Lady Wolves showing improvement with wins

The Rayne High Lady Wolves Volleyball Team improved their season record to 9-3 over the weekend as they attended the Dutchtown High Tournament.
The Lady Wolves posted a 4-1 record at the tournament with wins over Covington (25-2, 25-20), Episcopal (25-21, 25-12), St. Michael (25-13, 25-10) and Dutchtown (25-10, 25-20), before falling to Central in a three-game nailbitter (25-23, 21-25, 15-17).
In the Covington win, Charlesha Dugas and Tarya Kanonu led kills with nine and five, respectively. Layni Boudreaux and Charlyne Peltier led in assists, while Blair Bergeron had eight back row digs.
For the Episcopal win, Kanonu recorded eight kills, with Peltier and Boudreaux running the offense. Karla Richard led back row play.
In the St. Michael win, Katie Benoit and Kanonu each had five kills, while Bergeron and Richard led in digs.
Forthe Dutchtown win, Dugas and Kanonu each recorded eight kills and two blocks, while Peltier and Boudreaux led assists with nine apiece. Richard led digs with nine.
In their three-game Central loss, Dugas led kills with 11, with Benoit having nine and Kanonu with eight. Boudreaux and Peltier recorded 15 assists and two kills each. Benoit and Richard picked up 11 digs while Bergeron had 10.
During their four-game loss to Teurlings last week, the Lady Wolves won the first game of the match (25-20), before dropping the remaining three games for a Teurlings win.
Center hitter-blocker Charles Dugas recorded 12 kills against a tough Teurlings front line. She also blocked four and dug three on the back row for the Lady Wolves.
Rayne’s Kanonu and Benoit each had five kills, while Peltier, Bergeorn and Boudreaux each donated two.
Running the offense was Boudreaux with 15 assists, while the back row was defended with digs by Richard (12) and Peltier (8).
The Lady Wolves were scheduled to host Catholic HIgh Tuesday, followed by a road game to Carencro on Wednesday. With a off weekend, they will host Northside High on Tuesday, Sept. 22, and return to Lafayette the next day to face Lafayette High before beginning district play on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Crowley High.
