Opening ceremonies held for 2015 Rec summer season
With the opening weekend of the 2015 Rayne Recreation Summer Baseball Softball Program, a special opening ceremony was held Saturday, May 2, at Gossen Memorial Park as announced by Rayne Rec Director Dwayne Derise.
Colors were presented by local Boy Scouts, with the National Anthem sung by Payton Broussard.
The first pitches were thrown by former Rayne mayor and present Acadia Parish Assessor James “Jimbo” Petitjean for the boy’s league, and long-time volunteer Pam Hollingsworth for the girl’s league.
Petitjean is known for his dozen years of service to the City of Rayne’s recreation department as its recreation director. Hollingsworth has served in numerous capacities for the Rayne Recreation Department in helping the youth of the community. Each was presented a special plaque for the occasion.
Master of ceremonies was Rayne Recreation Director Rawyne Derise, who introduced Mayor Chuck Robichaux, City Council members Jimmy Fontenot and Kenneth Guidry, and members of the clergy.
Approximately 500 players will participate in the 2015 summer program.
