Rayne High baseball, softball diamond action

The Rayne High Wolves and Lady Wolves were in district action again this week.

Due to weather conditions, the Lady Wolves were limited to one game played on Tuesday, March 25, when they traveled to Opelousas High and claimed a 18-1 run-rule win, increasing their district slate to 4-2 on the 2014 season.

Kelcie Bourgeois went the distance for the Lady Wolves on the mound throwing six strikeouts during the no-hitter.

Cecily Schexnyder led the Rayne offense with a two-run RBI homer in the hitting barrage.

Brooke Moore and Ashley Thibodeaux also slapped in two RBIs, followed closely by Whitney Fontenot, Madison Venable and Gabrielle Peltier each with an RBI of their own.

Also adding hits for the Lady Wolves were Katelyn LeDoux, Kristin Gaspard and McKenzie Meche.

Also tagging home for the Rayne win were Katie Benoit and Blair Bergeron.

Rayne’s Thursday game has been rescheduled for Monday, April 7, at Washington-Marion.

Wolves

During a Saturday district contest, the Rayne High Wolves came up one run short against intra-parish rival Crowley High, 5-4.

The loss was the Wolves’ first district drop of the season, placing them at 3-1 in district and 13-3 overall.

In a contest that went into extra play with a 4-all tie after seven, the gents were able to drive in a run to claim the district win, placing the Gents up 5-0 in district play.

“Our guys played hard today, just came up a little short,” stated Rayne Coach Jason Bonin of the close loss. “We had a rough week with the Redemptorist marathon and a tight game against Eunice, I think we were just not running on all cylinders today. We’re better than today and hopefully we can come out strong this week.”

The Wolves turned in four runs on six hits while picking up nine walks. Leading the Rayne stats was Brice Meche who turned in three hits at four bats including two runs and a double.

Also swinging away for Rayne hits were TJ Bearb, Hunter Keely and Grant Menard. Gannon Quebodeaux crossed the plat for Rayne’s fourth run of the game.

Tyler LeJeune held the mound for the Wolves through five innings with four strikeouts and alowing eight hits, but Jaylen Reed was tagged with the loss as he closed the nail-bitter with one K and two hits.

The Wolves were slated to host Beau Chene Tuesday, followed by a road trip to Opelousas Thursday, both important district showdowns.
