Rayne High track members headed to Regionals
RAYNE - Six members of the Rayne High School Track Team have qualified for the Regional II-4A Track Meet to be held this week at UL-Lafayette’s Cajun Field.
The Rayne High tracksters qualified for the event by attending the 2015 District 4-4A Track Meet held Tuesday, April 21, at Crowley High.
Teams joining Rayne High for the meet were Crowley, LaGrange, Washington-Marion, Beau Chene, Opelousas and Eunice.
In the girls’ division, Rayne High’s Tristan Mouton qualified for regionals in not one, but four events, the 100 and 300 hurdles. She took a first place in the 100 hurdles with a 15.89 time, and topped the competition in the 300 hurdles with a 48.37 clocking.
Teammate Taisha Duhon followed Mouton in the 300 with a sixth place finish at 54.49.
In the 4x200 relay, Mouton and teammates Hannah Benoit, Jasmine Shaw and Charleshas Dugas finished with a 1:50.32 time and a third place finish.
In the 4x100 relay, Mouton, Shaw and Dugas were joined by Tanner Wilson on the led leg for a 52.43 time and third place finish.
Wilson also finished third in the 400 with a 1:05.16 time and a fourth place finish in the triple jump (32-3).
Dugas also took fourth place in the high jump (4-10) and a fifth in the 200 dash (54.99).
Shaw finised the girls’ scoring with a 14-7 fourth place finish in the long jump.
On the boy’s side, Cordracus Thomas claimed Rayne’s only first place finish by winning the 400 dash with a 51.59 time.
Desmond Cole took a third place in the shot put with a 43-8 throw.
Charles Jones pulled in a team point by placing sixth in the 200 dash with a 23.52 time.
The top four finishers at last week’s District Meet moved onto Regionals this week. The top regional finishers will move participate in the 4-A State Track Meet slated Saturday, May 9, at LSU.
