Wolves Attend State Wrestling Tournament
The 2015 Wrestling State Tournament was held Feb. 20 and 21, at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.
In the three divisions of competition, Rayne High placed eighth among 22 teams in Division II. The Wolves claimed 82 points with the 17 wrestlers in attendance.
Rayne wrestlers in attendance who contributed team points were 106-Cooper Simon, 113-Trevor Young, 120-Jordan McCrory, 126-Darian Thomas, 138-Drake Constatin, 145-Casey Henry, 152-Tyler Carriere, 170-Jacob Hebert, 182-Tanner Leger, 195-Andrew Arceneaux, 220-Michael Gossen, and 285-Mason Benoit as announced by Coach Matt Credeur.
Top finishers for Rayne were:
3rd place at 106 lbs. - Cooper Simon (Rayne) 34-10, Fr. over Tristan Pittenger (Grace King) 3-2, So. (Fall 4:04);
5th place at 170 lbs. - Jacob Hebert (Rayne) 14-14, Sr. over Layton Thurman (North Desoto) 18-24, Fr. (Fall 0:50);
6th place at 182 lbs. - Tanner Leger (Rayne) 34-14 Sr. fell to Austin Gary (Carencro) 33-7, Jr. (Fall 4:28) in the fifth place match.
Teurlings Catholic took top honors in Division II with 285 team points, followed by Archbishop Shaw in second place with 211 points.
