Wolves, Ladies in home stretch
The Lady Wolves remained undefeated in district play as they stand atop District 4-4A at 9-0.
Their latest win came over Washington-Marion at home. The Ladies claimed a 65-44 district win over the Charging Indians.
The Ladies took a 19-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back for the big district win, placing Rayne in the driver’s seat of their own destiny in post-season as they remain in the top 10 among 4A teams of the state at No. 9.
Leading the Rayne High offense for the win over the Indians was Charlesha Dugas who dumped in 17 points while collecting 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Tristan Mouton had a dozen points while handling 7 steals, and teammates Tasia Duhon and Amari Collins each scored 10 points apiece.
Rounding out the Rayne scoring were Tanner Wilson (8 pts., 5 steals), Whitley Larry (4 pts., 7 rebounds) and Tajane Butler and Tarya Kanonu each with a bucket.
The Ladies are scheduled to meet LaGrange on Tuesday and will return home for an open date on Friday. Seniors will be honored on Monday, Feb. 9, during their last regular home game against Euncie High.
Wolves
The Rayne boys are having recent trouble in district play as they fell to state-ranked Washington-Marion, 75-57.
The Wolves trailed slightly at the half 34-33, before the Indians poured on a strong offensive second half behind a stiff defense for the district win for Washington-Marion.
Jeremiah Warren and Ronald Cherry led the Indians with double points on the night.
The Wolves were led by Byron Mouton with 18 points, along with DRakkar broussard and Charles Jones, each with 10 points and 6 rebounds.
The Wolves are scheduled to meet LaGrange on Tuesday and return home for an open date on Friday. They will host Eunce High on Monday, Feb. 9th.
