Wolves, Ladies participate in weekend tournaments

LAFAYETTE - The Rayne High Lady Wolves Softball Team participated in the St. Thomas More Catholic High Softball Tournament over the weekend.
In opening action, the Lady Wolves banged out 10 hits for just as many runs for a 10-2 win over New Iberia Senior High on Friday.
Rayne hits were led by Madelyn Dupont, Blair Bergeron and Whitney Fontenot. Kelsey Bourgeois took the mound for the Lady Wolves throwing 10 strikeouts for the win.
Saturday games for the Lady Wolves saw a 12-0 loss against North Vermilion and a 13-3 win over Comeaux High.
In the loss to North Vermilion, the Rayne offense was limited to one hit. Madison Venable took the loss on the mound for Rayne.
Rayne closed out the tournament with a 13-3 win over Comeaux as the Lady Wolves connected for 10 hits led by Katie Benoit, Ashley Thibodeaux, Whitney Fontenot and Cecily Schexnyder.
Rayne’s Bourgeois held the mound for the win throwing four strikeouts while giving up four hits.
All softball games have been cancelled for this week due to extremely wet field conditions. Rayne will participate in the Lafayette High Tournament this weekend in Lafayette, followed by a Monday game at Iowa.
Wolves
The Wolves traveled over the weekend to Berwick for the Tri-City Baseball Tournament where they posted a 2-1 slate.
In their first contest, Rayne defeated E.D. White 8-4 behind a strng pitching performance by Hunter Keely (8 K’s). Leading the scoring were Grat Abshire, Gannon Quebodeaux, TJ Bearb and Brice Meche
In Saturday action, the Wolves defeted Berwick, 5-0. Hunter Meche nabbed the win with a 2-hit outting for the shutout. Quebodeaux, Bearb abd Doucet each had quality at bats.
The Wolves completed tournament play with a 6-5 loss to Central Lafourche with a come-from-behind win for the Trojans. Rayne held a 5-0 lead going into the fifth inning before the Trojans runs in four consecutive innings for the win.
Rayne High will travel to Hanson this weekend for additional tournament play, followed by a non-district contest on Tuesday when they will host Acadiana at 6 p.m.
