Wolves, Ladies split in district basketball play

The Lady Wolves improved their overall score to 20-1 and kept their district slate spotless at 3-0 with two wins during the last week of play.
The Ladies claimed a 54-27 win over DeRidder during Friday evening’s district contest at home.
Rayne held a 31-18 lead at the half and continued their dominance throughout the second half of play with a tough press and productive offense for the district win.
Charlesha Dugas led Rayne scoring with 14 points, along with four steals, three rebounds and a blocked shot.
Teammate Amari Collins dumped in a dozen points for the Lady Wolves, in addition to 11 rebounds on the boards.
Keysuana Moore followed closely with 11 points, while Whitley Larry scored nine points, six blocks and 11 rebounds for the Ladies.
The Lady Wolves also claimed a 48-20 district win over Leesville during Tuesday night play.
Rayne blanked the Cats 16-0 in the first quarter and kept the points rolling throughout the contest for the 28-point win.
Dugas led Rayne scores once again dumping in 20 points, in addition to five steals, one block and two rebounds.
Amari Collins recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Whitley Larry scored eight points, nine blocks and six rebounds.
The Lady Wolves were scheduled to hit the road Tuesday when they will try and keep their unblemished district slate, followed by a Friday evening district contest against intra-district rival Crowley High.
Wolves
The Wolves slipped in their last two outtings as they faced St. Martinville on Tuesday and district foe DeRidder at home on Friday.
During a 56-33 loss to St. Martinville, the Tigers claimed a 35-point first half lead which they held on to for a 56-13 win over the Wolves.
Dontray Leopaul led Rayne scores with 13 points, followed by Braylin Bonnom with 10, eight by Dondrakus Joseph and a basket by Notorious McClelland.
In Friday’s opening district contest at home, the Wolves fell to DeRidder in a close 80-71 contest.
Byron Mouton dumped in 33 points for the Wolves, but was not enough for a Rayne win.
Jason Thomas added a dozen points for the Wolves, along with a dozen by Dontray Leopaul and Braylin Bonnom with six.
With the loss, Rayne moved to 10-9 overall and 0-1 in district play.
The Wolves were schedule to travel to Washington-Marion on Tuesday and host Crowley High on Friday as they continue district play.
