Wolves, Lady Wolves begin basketball season

Both the Wolves and Lady Wolves’ 2014-2015 basketball seasons are in full swing.
Wolves
The Wolves participated in the Acadiana High Holiday Tournament where they participated in pool play. Rayne was 1-1 with a win over Comeaux High and a loss to Lafayette High.
In their 65-62 come-from-behind double overtime win over Comeaux, Drakkar Broussard led all scorers with 28 points while pulling down 7 rebounds and recording 11 free throws.
Charles Jomes had 15 points while Byron Mouton recorded 10 points and Drekylon Gibson netted 7.
In their 61-45 loss to Lafayette, Drekylon Gibson led Rayne scores with a dozen, followed by nine points each by Drakkar Broussard and Byron Mouton.
In earlier action on Nov. 20th, the Wolves scored a 61-39 win over Church Point. Dontray Leopaul led Rayne points with 14, along with Drakkar Broussard with 11 and Charles Jones at 10.
In their opening game on Nov. 18th at Breaux Bridge, the Wolves dropped a close 45-41 in the final seconds of the contest. Drakkar broussard led Rayne scores with 15 points, followed by Dondracus Joseph with a dozen and Charles Jones at six.
The Wolves will participate in the Lafayette High Tournament this weekend (Dec. 3-6), followed by a home contest on Dec. 9 when they will host Breaux Bridge, and another home game on Friday, Dec. 12, when they host Abbeville High.
Lady Wolves
The Rayne High Lady Wolves improved their early season to 7-1 Monday with a 61-45 win over Iota High.
Despite trailing 26-21 at the half and a 43-all tie at the end of regulation play, the Lady Wolves used a solid press and a collection of scoring to outscore the Lady Bulldogs 18-2 in overtime for the win.
Tristan Mouton led Rayne scorers with 18 points in addition to six steals. Charlesha Dugas chipped in 13 points, six rebounds and two steals, while Whitley Larry pulled down seven rebounds and 10 points during the win.
The Lady Wolves entered the St. Thomas More Holiday Tournament last week in good condition with three wins.
In round-robin action, they fell for the first time of the early season to Northside High in their third contest of the tournament. In the 44-38 loss, Charlesha Dugas led Rayne scores with 15 points, in addition to 2 steals and three freethrows.
Tristan Mouton had six points, while Cierra Harmon and Tajane Butler each donated five.
In their opening two games of the STM Tournament, Rayne recorded a 40-34 win over Dutchtown and a 53-46 win over Brusly.
In the win over Dutchtown, Charlesha Dugas led Rayne players with 9 points, along with eight points each by Whitley Larry and Tristan Mouton. Cierra Harmon recorded seven and Tanner Wolson with six.
In their Brusly win, Charlesha Dugas led with 18 points, followed by Tristan Mouton with a dozen and Cierra Harmon with eight.
In earlier action, the Lady Wolves scored a 69-37 win over Port Barre. Charlesha Dugas and Tristan Mouton each scored 16 apiece for the win, followed by 11 by Whitley Larry and 10 by Tasia Duhon.
In a 47-33 win over Donaldsonville, the Lady Wolves were led by Whitley Larry and Charlesha Dugas, each with 11 points apiece.
In their opening scrimmage of the season, the Lady Wolves claimed a 32-19 win over Comeaux High at the CASA Jamboree held on the UL-Lafayette campus.
For the win, Whitley Larry and Tasia Duhon each scored 11 points to lead Rayne scorers.
The Lady Wolves will participate in the Acadiana Lourdes SportsCare Girls Tournament this week (Wednesday - Saturday). They will open action on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against Lafayatte High, Thursday at 6 p.m. against New Iberia, and Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against Carencro.
They will return home on Tuesday, Dec. 9, for a 5:30 matchup against St. Louis, followed by another home game on Friday, Dec. 12, when they will host Acadiana at 5:30 p.m.
