Coming off a high from last year’s state playoff run, the Rayne High Wolves had many slots to fill for a productive 2013 season as they made the move to 4A.
Rayne High head coach Curt Ware saw potential, but was relying on some key figures from last season, in addition to some newcomers on both sides of the line.
That’s exactly what Ware got this season as his Wolves made another showing in post-season with a 8-2 record.
“I’m proud of all our guys,” concluded Ware of the 2013 season when the Wolves fell just short to North DeSoto in the playoffs. “When you take a team that lost so many starters from last year and produce an 8-2 season and get into the playoffs with a home game, you have to commend our guys on a good season.”
Not only did Ware think highly of his squad, but so did coaches of District 4-4A when they recently made all-district selections.
Rayne High landed seven players on all-district teams, including the top selection on offense.
Rayne running back Trent Duhon took home one of the league’s top honors when he was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player. Duhon rushed for 1,389 yards and 21 touchdowns for the Wolves during his senior campaign, while also hauling in eight passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns.
The Wolves also landed four more players on the first-team offensive unit, including linemen Matt Dore, Brennon Bourque and Grant Abshire, as well as place kicker Ty Delahoussaye.
Delahoussaye was also named the second-team punter.
Completing first team selections of Rayne High players was defensive lineman Desmond Cole, the lone Wolf named to the defensive squad.
Rayne’s Hunter Adkins was named to the second team at offensive lineman, the lone second team selection from Rayne High.
Named Defensive Most Valuable Player was LaGrange’s Charles Wilridge, joined by his coach, Jules Sullen, as the district’s Coach of the Year.
Other schools also included in this year’s 4-4A selections following the state’s district shuffle were Washington Marion, Beau Chene, Opelousas, and long-time parish rival Crowley High.
