Wolves named among 4-4A All-District picks
With the 2015 high school baseball season complete, selections for 4-4A All-District Team have been announced.
Rayne High standouts who claimed first team slots are seniors Hunter Keely and Grant Abshire, both repeat selections from last year.
Keely was named the top shortstop of the district. In addition to his prowess on defense, Keely turned in a .312 batting average at the plate recording three doubles, a triple, a homerun and a number of singles.
Grant Abshire, who manned a number of positions for the Wolves as needed, split his defensive duties at catcher, first base and third base. The all-round defensive player was also a force at the plate with a .424 batting average knocking in seven RBI’s along with three doubles and a homer among numerous singles.
Concluding Rayne High selections was Hunter Meche. The sophomore southpaw threw a 2-0 season on the mound for the Wolves and was named among the four 2nd Team pitchers.
Named the district’s “Most Valuable Player” was LaGrange’s Jeremiah West, a senior pitcher for the Gators.
Crowley High’s leader Christian Doughty was named the district’s “Coach of the Year” as he led the Gents to a district title.
